With UBCI, Tunisia’s Carte (Hassine Doghri) finally gets into the banking sector (€58m)

BNP Paribas and the Carte group signed an agreement on 28 August for the latter’s acquisition of 7,800,000 shares in Union Bancaire pour le Commerce et l’Industrie (UBCI) at a price of 23.5 dinars per share, i.e. a total value of 183.3m dinars (€57.7m).

This transaction represents 39% of UBCI’s capital. BNP Paribas, which found no buyers among foreign investors, retains a stake of 11.09%. The transaction still needs to get the green light from the authorities.
