On 26 August, Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta hailed the first cargo of crude oil to be exported to Asia from Kenya via Tullow Oil’s South Lokichar project in Turkana, but the oil company still has to get the authorities’ green light before moving into the commercial production phase.

The crude oil being transported to Asia since last Monday was, as it happens, produced as part of the Early Oil Pilot Scheme, Tullow’s pilot production project in the region.
