Several decades of media and legal battles have failed to bring the Nigerian government and Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC) to an agreement. The former accuses the latter of illegal dumping and pollution that led to an oil spill in the community of Ejama-Ebubu during the 1967-1970 Biafra War.
