Trafigura consortium wins Angola’s Lobito rail freight corridor

Trafigura, Mota-Engil and Vecturis beat a grouping of three Chinese companies on this 1,300 km link that connects the Atlantic to the copper-bearing areas of DR Congo. The concession is for 30 years.

As anticipated by Africa Business+ (25/04/2022), the consortium that officially won the contract comprised the Swiss-based trader Trafigura, the Portuguese construction and engineering company specialising in railways and well established in Angola, Mota-Engil, and the Belgian railway operator Vecturis, the continent’s leading company. The concession for the Benguela corridor, known as Lobito, was officially awarded on 20 July.
