Having taken the lead in the Botswana market, the telecoms operator went live with 5G on 11 November. However, it was beaten across the line by rival and former market leader Mascom.

Managing director of Orange Botswana since 1 September 2021, Néné Maïga replaced Patrick Benon from Benin, who was appointed managing director of Orange Cameroon. Maïga, from Mali, will be the first within the group to inaugurate 5G on the continent with the launch on 11 November. This is the first full-scale commercial network for the Orange Group in Africa.
