Toliara Rare Earths: Base Resources sets March deadline for project’s future

Following the Malagasy government’s decision to suspend Base Resources’ activities at its Toliara mineral sands project, the ASX (AUS$274.52 million) and AIM-listed Australian miner begun reviewing an associated rare earths project.

The project will evaluate the potential for exploitation of the rare earth ore monazite, found mainly in the Ranobe deposits in the mineral sands of Toliara. Monazite contains thorium, which can be used to support the development of renewable energy infrastructure. A conceptual study on monazite by Base Resources will be completed in March and will determine whether or not the company will launch a pre-feasibility study of the project.
