Could financing from the European Investment Bank (EIB) in Africa bring greater rewards to companies in Europe, and particularly in France? The French employers’ federation (Mouvement des entreprises de France Medef International), headed since 2015 by Philippe Gauthier, certainly believes so. The EIB, chaired by Germany’s Werner Hoyer, seconded by France’s Ambroise Fayolle, a graduate of the école nationale d’administration whose portfolio includes sub-Saharan Africa, and Spain’s Emma Navarro (who focuses on North Africa), approved €3.3bn ($3.6bn) to fund projects in Africa in 2018 alone.
