Could financing from the European Investment Bank (EIB) in Africa bring greater rewards to companies in Europe, and particularly in France? The French employers’ federation (Mouvement des entreprises de France – Medef International), headed since 2015 by Philippe Gauthier, certainly believes so. The EIB, chaired by Germany’s Werner Hoyer, seconded by France’s Ambroise Fayolle, a graduate of the école nationale d’administration whose portfolio includes sub-Saharan Africa, and Spain’s Emma Navarro (who focuses on North Africa), approved €3.3bn ($3.6bn) to fund projects in Africa in 2018 alone.
