Lagos’ main container terminal (with a 1,000-metre quay and 55-hectare stackyard), a competitor for the four terminals on the Tincan peninsula, is currently suffering from massive congestion. In mid-February, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) issued a 30-day ultimatum for APMT to put an end to what the authority described as “operational inefficiencies”, citing in particular the poor condition of the handling equipment.
