Renault in North Africa: Somaca plant expansion put on hold, but Tangier and Oran are spared
Announced at the end of 2018, the plan to double the capacity of the Somaca plant located in Casablanca has become a victim of the French carmaker’s massive restructuring plan, which it recently disclosed.

Jeune Afrique Business+ has received confirmation from a source close to the group that plans to double the capacity of the Renault Somaca plant in Casablanca have been put on hold. This decision is part of a massive restructuring plan announced on 29 May by Jean-Dominique Senard, Chairman of the automotive group, which, in his words, “is fighting for its survival”.
