Safmarine becomes latest victim of shipowner consolidation in Africa
Maersk, the world’s leading container operator, is to definitively erase the Safmarine name from its operations by the end of the year, four years after CMA CGM did the same with another prestigious brand, Delmas.

The two container giants had initially promised to keep separate brands for the American market, before finally backtracking and “selling” Africa to their shipper customers under a single name that covers all other major global markets.
