OMV’s future in Tunisia up in the air following the suspension of its oil business
Austrian oil company OMV will be suspending, effective today and for an indefinite period of time, the entirety of its Tunisia-based oil operations. The drastic decision was taken as the valves of the pipelines which transport oil in southern Tunisia have been blockaded since July by local protesters demanding jobs they were promised back in 2017.

“This decision [to suspend operations] was taken, due to the lack of perspectives, with the continuation of the El Kamour sit-in that has cost a fortune,” said Hamed Matri, adviser to the industry and energy minister.
