Tunisia: Nizar Ayari launches $30m food security project with Cofco and Viterra

After years of drought, the head of the Tunisia Cereal Office is trying to avoid shortages by turning to two of the world’s agri-food giants. One of the contenders has been ruled out because of the Russian origin of its products.

Viterra – the agribusiness giant controlled by GlencoreCPP Investments and British Columbia Investment Management Corporation – and Cofco International, the overseas agricultural trading platform of Cofco Corporation – one of the leaders in China’s agri-food sector – won the bid after a restricted tender process marked by a sense of urgency.
