Nigeria: Visa to clinch its entry into the capital of Interswitch (Mitchell Elegbe, Helios, TA Associates, IFC) by early 2020

The investment gives the Nigerian electronic payments company a market capitalisation of $1bn. It is being pursued before a likely IPO and is a clear sign of the growing interest of U.S. giants in the sector for development opportunities in Africa.

Visa Inc. has recently signed an agreement with the founder and the private equity funds which control Interswitch Limited for the acquisition of a “significant minority stake” in the capital of the company which aims to achieve geographical reach across the entire continent.
