In late 2018, Arise Mauritania SA was awarded the concession to finance, construct and operate an extension of the Port autonome de Nouakchott for a 25-year period.

In December 2019, 24 members of parliament submitted a proposed resolution concerning the formation of an inquiry committee to look into, among other questions, the conditions under which the port concession was awarded, with the concession requiring a capex of $390m.
