After the departure of Barclays, Absa appoints Aaron Daniel Mminele as its new Group Chief Executive

The new head of the South African bank, formerly Deputy Governor at the South African Reserve Bank, will take up his duties on 15 January.

After twenty years at the South African Reserve Bank (SARB), including two 5-year terms as Deputy Governor, Aaron Daniel Mminele joins Absa Group as the new Group Chief Executive. He takes over from René van Wyk who has been at the head of the bank on an interim basis since March 2019 following the retirement of Maria Ramos. Mr Van Wyk will accompany his successor until 31 January 2020 to ensure the handover period.
