“The two agreements will be signed by the end of February at the latest,” says a source from the French Development Agency (AFD) in Port Louis. According to this source, after several months of discussions with Airport of Mauritius Co. Limited (AML), the French institution has approved funding of €85m ($95m) and is preparing to initial the agreements. The non-sovereign loan was confirmed by the agency’s board of directors on 11 July, but a financier had yet to be found for the balance. This has now been done with the European Union which is providing a grant of €15.6m ($17.4m), bringing the total financial support to more than €100m ($111m) for the new infrastructure.
