In the last few months, the Swiss group has increased the number of its multi-year contracts to guarantee the sale of its mineral ores in a market plagued by volatile prices. It just signed another agreement with the South Korean electronics behemoth.

Glencore has already secured the sale of more than 150,000 tonnes of cobalt for the next five years, a record for the Swiss giant that accounts for one third of the mineral ore’s global production. Its most recent contract to date, signed on 10 February, provides for the provision of 21,000 tonnes of mineral ore between 2020 and 2024 to the Samsung group and its subsidiary Samsung SDI, which develops renewable energies and produces lithium-ion batteries.
