Institutional quartet to improve waste management in Senegal

The World Bank is leading a $355m funding round alongside the French Development Agency (AFD), Spain’s AECID and the EIB. The focus is on solid waste landfills in the country, particularly in Dakar.

In detail, the Washington-based institution led by David Malpass will provide two financing facilities through its International Development Association (IDA): a line of credit of $12m over 6 years, and a facility of $113m over 9 years. The AFD, led by Rémy Rioux, is providing $44m, while Werner Hoyer‘s EIB is signing a cheque for $55m. For its part, the Spanish government, via AECID (Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation), is providing $55m. The Senegalese Government ($61m) and the local private sector ($15m) will complete the funding process.
