The men and women behind the growing number of ‘Start-up Acts’ in African countries
Since 2018, many sub-Saharan African countries have followed in the footsteps of Tunisia, the first nation on the continent to adopt a “Start-up Act” to promote the creation of innovative start-up companies. Behind the legislative buzz is i4Policy, an initiative led by three Africans.

What do Tunisia, Senegal, Guinea, Mali, Côte d’Ivoire, Benin and Togo all have in common? They have or are in the process of adopting legislation to facilitate the creation and rapid, but less risky, growth of innovative start-ups. This surge of legislation has us asking, why is it happening now and how are countries managing to devise and adopt policies so quickly?
