Olivier Chi Nouako, the man bringing Marriott to Cameroon

The Cameroonian-born Canadian lawyer is embarking on a five-star project in Douala worth $100m. Bouygues Construction will carry out the required works.

Olivier Chi Nouako is resilient. After nine years of lobbying, Immigration and Business Canada (IBC), which he founded to facilitate immigration to the country, he :lfinally signed a 50-year renewable emphyteutic lease with the Cameroonian government on 10 August. He plans to build a 5-star hotel in Douala under the Marriott brand name. “I had to make around eight trips to Cameroon just for this project,” said the Montreal-based Canadian lawyer of Cameroonian origin, who admits to having already shelled out over 2bn CFA francs (over €3m).
