SBA Communications Corporation, the U.S. owner and operator of wireless communications infrastructure with a focus on markets in the U.S. and South America, has consolidated its presence in Africa with the acquisition of 900 towers in South Africa with antenna space leased to telecoms firms such as TN, Vodacom and Cell C. The Florida-based and Nasdaq-listed company with a market capitalisation of $26bn said on 28 October that it had exercised an option to raise its stake to 94% in the capital of the South African subsidiary of Atlas Tower Group, in which it previously held a minority shareholding.
