Engie, EDF, Toyota, Eranove et al vying for the market to build 317 mini grids in Togo

Togo’s Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Agency is organising a prequalification of tenderers for five lots totalling 317 mini solar power plants. Jeune Afrique Business+ takes a closer look.

In what constitutes a rare move in the region, this market is being offered in the form of a PPP since the Togolese government wished to avoid the mistakes made by its neighbours’ national electricity utilities. The latter have rolled out mini grids in recent years without the necessary knowledge to manage and maintain them.
