The billion-dollar transaction seals the Brazilian giant’s exit from the capital of Angola’s leading mobile phone operator, which is owned by Isabel dos Santos, daughter of the former Angolan president.

Placed under bankruptcy protection in June 2016, Brazilian telecommunications giant Oi sold its 25% stake in Angolan operator Unitel to the national oil company Sonangol, which already owns 25% of the capital. Sonangol now controls 50% of the shares.
