Coronavirus: Turkey writes a big check to the AfDB

The Turkish Parliament approved a massive increase in the country’s stake in the capital of the African Development Bank (AfDB). Ankara is readying to join the ranks of Paris, Washington, Tokyo, Beijing and London as one of the AfDB’s major non-African shareholders.

According to information obtained by Jeune Afrique Business+, at the end of March the Turkish Parliament gave the green light for a capital contribution totalling 20 million Turkish pounds (€2.77bn) to support Africa’s efforts to combat the coronavirus.
