DFC, OPIC’s successor, renews its confidence in D.Light, a solar pioneer in Africa 

The bank is offering a helping hand to strengthen the American photovoltaic solutions provider’s position in Kenya, its flagship market.

The $20m from the Development Finance Corporation will be used for the purchase of D.Light’s receivables by Solar Frontier Capital, a pan-African financial intermediary that also offers financial solutions to off-grid players on the continent. The transaction is expected to clean up D.Light’s books, enabling it to expand its customer portfolio to some 270,000 new households in Kenya, or around 1.2 million individuals.
