Meet the three sub-Saharan Africans chosen by Heidrick & Struggles to serve on Facebook’s new oversight board
Ghanaian human rights advocate Afia Asantewaa Asare-Kyei, Kenyan lawyer Maina Kiai and Cameroonian journalist Julie Owono have been selected by the headhunter firm Heidrick & Struggles to serve on the tech giant’s new content oversight board, created in early 2020.

Tasked with hearing cases related to content removal decisions made by Facebook and Instagram, the newly-created oversight board, an initiative of the US tech giant, is made up of 20 independent members selected by US headhunter firm Heidrick & Struggles.
