Facing sharp drop in air traffic, ASECNA rubber stamps its first cost-saving measures

As a result of the airspace closures of 17 of its member countries, the pan-African air navigation agency’s revenues have fallen substantially. Jeune Afrique Business+ has learned of the decisions taken on 22 May by the organisation’s Director General, Mohamed Moussa.

Freezes on hiring and early retirement, transfers from one country to another, the cancellation of the entrance examinations for the aviation school of the Agency for Air Navigation Safety (ASECNA) in Africa and Madagascar’s full-time education programmes, and, more symbolically, the requirement for all members of senior management (director general, financial controller, accounting officer, chief of staff to the director general, etc.) to travel in economy class through 31 December 2020.
