The interview remained confidential in Ethiopia and in the pan-African telecoms sector. In an interview given on 28 August to local radio station Addis Business Talk, Balcha Reba, CEO of the Ethiopian Communications Authority (ECA) since its creation in September 2019, confirmed what Jeune Afrique Business+ had already revealed at the end of August: that the privatisation of the telecoms sector, including the opening of Ethio Telecom’s capital and the awarding of two new private operator licences, is being pursued in Addis Ababa, contrary to rumours circulating for several weeks about a possible abandonment.
