Stéphane Michel, powerful head of the Middle East-North Africa (MENA) region of exploration-production, one of the presumed heirs apparent of Patrick Pouyanné, has risen in the ranks and now takes charge of the entire “gas division, renewables and electricity”.

The mission of this new branch, created in 2016, was to accelerate the French oil giant’s energy transition, which has increased acquisitions in this area for the past six months. Stéphane Michel will now sit on Total’s Executive Committee, as did his predecessor Philippe Sauquet, who retired.
