Claudio Descalzi’s African lieutenants at ENI
The 66-year-old Milanese engineer, married to Congolese Marie Magdalena Ingoba, is the former head of the Nigerian and Congo-Brazzaville subsidiaries. A seasoned expert on Libya, where he piloted the development of its operations, he has been at the head of ENI since 2014 and believes more than ever in the potential of his African group.

Claudio Descalzi has been a regular visitor to Algiers in recent months, where he aims to take over some of BP‘s gas assets in full agreement with Sonatrach and its head Toufik Hakkar. He also made a significant visit to Abidjan on 2 and 3 October, where he met President Alassane Ouattara. This followed the discovery earlier of a field in the Côte d’Ivoire offshore that could yield more than 1.5 billion barrels of oil a month.
