Mopani Mine: Zambia’s debt to Glencore reduced to $900m
The Zambian government committed to paying $1.5 billion when it bought the Mopani copper mine on credit from Glencore in April 2021.

Following tax misunderstandings and a disagreement on the strategy to follow in Zambia, the Swiss trading group decided, in January 2021, to throw in the towel and sell its 73% indirect stake in Mopani Copper Mines plc (MCM) to the state.
