This is First Quantum‘s other operating jurisdiction on the African continent, alongside its operations in Zambia. Akjoujt is one of Mauritania’s largest private mining operations, alongside Kinross‘ giant Tasiast gold mine further north. Mauritania is first and foremost know for its iron ore deposits developed by the state-owned SNIM in Zouerate.
