Egypt: Centamin negotiates agreement to connect to national electricity grid
The diesel bill of Egypt’s largest industrial gold producer soared by 74% in 2022 compared to 2021. Centamin, led by Martin Hogan, has thus entered into discussions with the national power utility, currently studying the feasibility of connecting the Sukari mine to its grid.

Centamin is targeting a 50 MW power contract which, combined with the 36 MW currently supplied by its solar plant, would meet the mine’s power needs. It would also contribute to the company’s decarbonisation objectives.
