Who is Gemcorp the firm in the running for Sonangol’s Lobito refinery contract?

The British company Gemcorp Holding Ltd, in partnership with Angolan engineering and construction company Omatapalo, is positioning itself to invest in the Lobito refinery project in Benguela province. This follows winning the tender for the construction of the Cabinda refinery through a public tender on 9 July.

Founded and led by Atanas Bostandjiev, Gemcorp is active in investments (direct lending and credit management, private equity, trade finance) and focused on emerging markets (Gemcorp Capital since 2014), commodity trading (Gemcorp Commodities Trading since 2016) and, more recently, in energy (Gemcorp Energy since 2019). It has refineries under development in Angola and Liberia.
