The fine was more irritation than harm for American Tower Corporation (ATC), the buyer of some 5,500 telecom towers from Eaton Towers Holdings. According to an official COMESA Competition document dated 6 December and consulted by Africa Business+, the American group was sanctioned for failing to fulfil its obligations in this mega-deal, which was completed at the beginning of 2020. At the time, the American company had taken over all of Eaton’s African towers for $1.8 billion.
