SouthBridge MD Frannie Leautier : “Our forest fund with BADEA will operate as a debt vehicle and has already raised $250m in commitments”

With a $2 billion target, the fund created by the SouthBridge Group and the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) and supported by the Bezos Foundation will operate on an essentially non-profit basis. However, it aims to create income for farmers and foresters through carbon credits.

SouthBridge Investments, one of the companies of the pan-African financial services SouthBridge Group, which Lionel Zinsou and Donald Kaberuka created, announced at the COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh the creation of an African Forest Fund, under the name Vumbuzi. It has offices in Abidjan, Kigali and Paris.
