This time, they’ve clarified that the final endowment will be $500 million. An ambitious level, but the managing partners – Matteo Stefanel and Udayan Goyal – remain galvanised by the performance of their last investment vehicle. For Apis Growth Fund II, Stefanel, formerly of Abraaj, and Goyal, ex-Deutsche Bank, set out to raise $400m. Three years later, in December 2019 and just before the Covid pandemic, the pair managed to raise $563 million, signing one of the year’s best results for the African continent.
